My life is not ALL about food, I do get the opportunity to take some pictures of amazing landscapes in this beautiful place we call “Africa”. Although I must admit I haven’t taken nearly as many as I would like to have. The years seem to roll past so quickly, and I have decided this year I am going to get out of the kitchen and into the countryside as much as possible.
Patrick Holford is Britain’s leading nutrition expert, and author of over thirty books on diet, health and nutrition. His 9 Day Liver Detox, contains delicious recipes, which are nutritious and have become part of our everyday meals. There is no boiling on the stove for hours for this amazing soup. A very special couple celebrated their 40th (Ruby) Wedding Anniversary this weekend, and I made these sweet little wedding cakes for them. Congratulations Kev and Pam !!!!!
I decorated the bridal flowers with tiny Swarovski crystals instead of edible jewels, because they shone so beautifully and made the flowers look special. (if you ever decide to use something that is not edible on your flowers remember to warn the person you are giving them to ).
I am really excited to welcome Marilina Lewis, Nutrition Coach, back with more of her amazing healthy eating tips.
This time its “BRAAING WITHOUT BENDING THE RULES”.
For our overseas friends “braaing” is the Afrikaans word for grilling meat over an open fire, in other words your regular barbecue. Braaing is part of our everyday lives in South Africa. Because our weather is so good year round, we are able to cook outside most of the year and as South Africans we braai whenever we get the opportunity, . Because braaing normally constitutes large quantities of meat and “boerewors” another Afrikaans word boer (farmer) and wors (sausage) , it is not always the healthiest choice. Marilina is going to show us some healthy braaing options. So get outside to your braai or barbecue and get down to some serious healthy eating.
I love pulling out my recipe books and browsing through old family recipes. I was reminded recently by a friend of this Chocolate Orange cheesecake recipe that I had made time and again. So I dragged out my old recipe book of handwritten favourite recipes and eventually found the page stained from splashes of cream and chocolate. It is a delicious NO BAKE Cheesecake that tastes like heaven. One of my favourite combinations is chocolate and orange, and this recipe does the combination justice.
These little granola cups can be filled with loads of interesting things. Natural yoghurt with cinnamon and blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and cherries would be my first choice, but fill them with anything that takes your fancy, and they are good to go. Lemon curd with cream and grated lemon zest, nutella for the kids, or yoghurt topped with thinly sliced beetroot fresh mint and a drizzle of honey.
As the year draws to an end, I am so grateful for my life, my family and those of you who have supported and followed me on Shades of Cinnamon. I love having the opportunity to share my recipes with you, and hope that you have enjoyed making them. May your life be colorful, magnificent, shimmering and Joyful, As the magic of Christmas spreads over you this Festive Season.
To my family and friends , near and far, I love you all and hope you have a Merry Christmas.
These chocolate shortbread cookies are a variation on a traditional shortbread recipe, and I decided to decorate some with white fondant and the others with royal icing. Watch this quick utube clip by Chef Roble to see how easy it is to make Royal Icing. Once the icing is made put it into an icing bag with a small piping nozzle and decorate your cookies .
